Article #1:  Seeking Great Stories!

Do you know anyone who has or is currently working at the Polynesian Cultural Center, someone with an exciting, interesting, or inspiring backstory?   

We are creating a proposal to develop a multi-episode miniseries for Netflix and/or other channels featuring a behind-the-scenes look at Hawaii’s #1 Show (HA: Breath of Life) and/or “Favorite Visitor Attraction” (The Center). We want to highlight the exciting lives of our employees, both past and present. We need to know about anyone with a good story—stories of how and where they grew up, what brought them to the Center or BYU-Hawaii, their experience here, etc. Many of our lives seem plain and maybe even boring to us, but to millions of mainland or international viewers, your lives are extraordinary and exciting.  

Please point us in the right direction towards people we can talk to and possibly feature or tell their story in the miniseries.

We live in a very unique community and work at an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind place where cultural divides are minimized, education is prized, kindness is key, and Aloha is lived. The world needs to see that such a place exists and that it is a place they can visit and perhaps take a bit of it home with them. We can share our light with a broader world audience. We need your help to do this well.

Article #2:  Book of Mormon Production Casting Call

Actors and extras are needed to recreate the 3 armies from the story of Helaman’s Stripling Warriors. Specifically, adult men and young men, ages 12 and older, who are of Native American, Pacific Islander, Asian, or Latin American heritage. 

Production on Oahu is scheduled for August 24, 25, 26, and 27. Those interested are encouraged to sign-up before July 24th. While applicants are welcome to work on all dates, help on any of the days will be appreciated. Applicants can list their availability when they complete the application. 

• These roles are paid. (Participants must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.); and volunteers are also welcome. 
• Those of Native American, Pacific Islander, Asian, or Latin American heritage are strongly encouraged to apply. 

• Adult men are especially needed since twice as many people are needed to populate the Army of Antipus and the Lamanite Army. 
• There will be A LOT of marching, running, and carefully choreographed fighting as the Armies of Antipus pursue the Armies of the Lamanites, who are pursuing Helaman’s Stripling Warriors. 
• Applicants must be temple-worthy members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as determined by their bishop. (A temple recommend—while helpful—is not required if we receive a Bishop’s Clearance.)

Article #3:  Free Summer Learning Series for Entrepreneurs

The Polynesian Cultural Center Retail Team is sponsoring a Summer Retail Accelerator for local entrepreneurs, family businesses, and student entrepreneurs who want to better understand sales, finance, accounting, and the ins and outs of managing a product business. The series includes 2 workshops, 2 mentor sessions, 2 field trips, and is free to participants. This series is facilitated by Carolynn Duncan, who is an Enactus mentor and adjunct resource at the BYU-Hawaii Willes Center for entrepreneurship.
