Driving by the front of the Center today, you may see some activity in grading and planting naupaka plants and grass.  

As the leadership of the Center looks toward a brighter future with less impact on the operation from unnecessary expenses, they have clarified a desire to simplify the Center’s operations as much as possible. One way that should not impact our guests in any meaningful way is the simplification of grounds operations or the landscaping around the Center. A key component of this is to drastically reduce or eliminate grounds and landscaping that meet the following criteria; they a) take time to maintain, b) is not of benefit in any way to our guests, and c) are not beneficial to the operation of the Center (eg. the plants don’t provide resources used by the Center).

President Grace has led out on this charge by personally removing landscaping on the mauka service road behind Marquesas. The Facilities team is actively testing a simplification format out front that will draw people into the Center and Hukilau Marketplace proper, as opposed to highlighting any landscaping along Kamehameha highway. This simplification will save the Center significantly if applied consistently throughout the property.
